James Edward Hagebusch, 93, of Nowata, Oklahoma passed away February 1, 2021 with family at his side. James was born January 16, 1928 to Edward Garrett Hagebusch and Ruth Elsa (McKibben) Hagebusch in Coody's Bluff, OK. James attended Childers School and enjoyed playing catcher on the baseball team. On August 6, 1950, he married the love of his life Bobbie June Hughes in Nowata. He enlisted in the United States Army in February 1952 and was released from active duty on 1 December 1953.

James was a foster parent to numerous children of all different ages. He volunteered to deliver meals on wheels to seniors in the Nowata area.  James was a member of the Nazarene Church in Nowata. He had many interests which included fishing, hunting, and camping. He enjoyed living on a farm and taking care of the animals. He especially enjoyed rodeo’s and roping with his son Kenny. James loved children and playing with his grandchildren was a special time for him. He was an avid OU Sooners and Dallas Cowboy fan. He cared about others and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his three children, Brenda Smith of Nowata, OK, Nancy Westfall and husband Mark of Afton, OK, Kenny Hagebusch of Nowata, OK, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and a host of friends.

James was preceded in death by his wife Bobbie June Hagebusch; one son, Bobby Hagebusch, his parents, Edward and Ruth Hagebusch; one grandchild, Amy Hanigan; and three siblings, Janilee Hagebusch, Delos Hagebusch and Lindel Hagebusch.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hagebusch will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the Benjamin Funeral Home Chapel, 114 W. Cherokee, Nowata, Ok. 74048, with Ben Lindsly officiating. Interment will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will be present for visitation at Benjamin Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service.
