Bertha Inez Grover died on January 20, 2023, at the Medicalodge of Coffeyville, Kansas.

Bertha was born in Nowata County in the home southeast of Nowata on September 17, 1931, the hottest day of that year. She grew up in the country and lived in the country until the 1943 flood that caused the family to move into Nowata. She went to a two-room school in the country called Salt Creek until the move, then she attended Nowata schools. At the age of 16, she and Joe Grover Jr. were married. To this union, two sons were born. Joe and Bertha lived in the Nowata area until 1963, when they moved all the way to Coffeyville, Kansas. Mr. Grover died in 2009, after 61 years and 9 months of marriage.

Bertha did not work out of home until both sons were older. She then worked at several places in Coffeyville. In Nowata, they belonged to the First United Methodist Church, where the couple was very active there, until they joined the First Baptist Church. In 1982, she was the superintendent of the nursery. She did belong to the Women’s Circle Group, the Salvation Army, the C.R.M.C. Auxiliary, and was the president of the Repaso Modern Book Review Club. She loved all sports and enjoyed watching her grandchildren, then great-grandchildren play and not much could keep her away.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents; Earl and Maudie Parrish, her in-laws; Joe and Theresa Grover Sr, and one grandson; Lucas Grover.

Surviving are her sons; Joe Grover III and wife, Vickie and Tim Grover and wife, Linda, her grandchildren; Greg Grover and Lori Grover-Wilson and husband, Eddie, her great-grandchildren; Chuckie Morris, Jada Wilson, E.J. Wilson, and Parish Grover, her step-grandchildren; MeLea Merrick, Cody Merrick and wife, her step-great-grandchildren; Jason James, Ethan Merrick, and Harley Merrick.

There will be a graveside service at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery at 10:00 am on Friday, January 27, 2023, with Reverend Colin Kirk officiating.  in Nowata, OK.
