Ronda Nell (Dart- Smith) Locke, 88, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026.
Ronda was born on August 7, 1937 in Nowata Ok to Mildred (Frauenberger) and Johnnie Dart. Her parents loved her so much, were so proud of her, and she felt the same about them.
She was an only child and as a child she never really felt alone. She enjoyed playing with her dogs (Roger in particular), cousins (Jim, John, Herb, Ralph, Mary Lou), friends, and was capable at a young age of preparing and serving entire meals. Her grandparents, on both her maternal and paternal side, she loved, adored, and considered friends.
Ronda went to Nowata Public Schools and graduated from Nowata High in 1955. Her proficiency in typing, shorthand, and ledger work allowed her to start a career at the F. H. Akright Agency before graduation. In September of 1956 she married Jerry W. Smith and together they welcomed three children. During those years she poured her talents into gardening, cooking, sewing, the arts, and creating a warm home for those she loved. Shortly after this marriage dissolved in 1980, she began a career in safety prevention and claims for Phillips that lasted until her retirement in 2002. In 1985, she married Frank A. Locke, with whom she shared her life with until his passing in 2017.
She was known for her generous heart, acts of kindness, and her ability to make others feel cared for, lifted up, and welcomed. She loved hosting family gatherings, and cooking special foods, deserts, and snacks tailored for whomever was coming to see her. She was a role model nurturer and care giver that selflessly provided end of life care for her father, mother, and late husband Frank.
Her faith was a very important part of her life. Her actions reflected this in the way she quietly served others with kindness, compassion, and love. Through involvement in the Nowata Church of the Nazarene, Hillside Christian Church, and Nowata Church of God, she found meaningful ways to support and encourage others.
On April 24, 2026, her angel wings grew and she took flight. In her own words, she often reflected, “I have had such a good life”. Her family finds peace in knowing how true that was.
She is survived by her children, Jenifer (Johnnie) Pierce, Jerold (Ginger) Smith, and Jeffrey (Cynamon) Smith; grandchildren, Julie (Mat) Berger, Johnna (Jay) Warden, Chelsea (Bryan) Wilson, and Olive Smith; and many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.
There will be a private gathering for family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to the 1033 Emergency …….
