Julie Huntington

June 16, 1964 — September 25, 2025

Nowata

Julie Ann Moore Huntington, 61, passed away on September 25, 2025 at the family ranch in Nowata. Julie will be remembered for her light, happy spirit and tender heartedness toward people and animals alike.

Born on June 16, 1964 in Bartlesville, OK, Julie was the daughter of the late Connie Clark Moore and Iva Mae Moore.

Julie’s early life was spent on the ranch, doing what she loved. Working cattle horseback and being a helping hand as her Dad’s mini-me. Her love for animals didn’t just pertain to cattle and horses. She, and her sister, Nancy especially loved getting to pet a new baby calf and they loved it when their dad brought home wild animals including rabbits, horny toads, and frogs. There were even baby coyotes, baby skunks and a baby bobcat. Mom was glad these animals did not survive very long and many pretend animal funerals were had.

She attended Nowata Schools where she was remembered for her bubbly personality and her ability to always make everybody feel like a somebody. She loved her peers and her peers loved her. So much so, that it earned her the homecoming queen. She excelled in choir, drama and speech, and cheerleading. She also earned championship ribbons in 4-H Club activities, with her mother serving as club leader. Julie and David were high school sweethearts and they married in August 1988. Julie’s favorite accomplishments were her children, Justin and Ashley, whom she revolved her life around. To be able to spend more time with them, she chose her professional career to be the Indian Education Coordinator for the JOM Program for Nowata Schools. She served the school for 25 years. In this capacity, she assisted Native American students, predominately Cherokees, with cultural and educational opportunities. She helped many high school and middle school students with the coursework. She was also very competent at grant-writing for additional program funding.

After retiring from JOM, the ranch was Julie's sanctuary. She was revitalized every day by God's glory in nature with fresh air, open sky, and plenty of tall prairie grass. Her passion was helping her father and her son, Justin with the horses and cattle. She especially enjoyed teaching her grandchildren, Kallen and Kase how to be ranchers.

Julie's greatest joy came from her family. Her children, Ashley and Justin were the light of her life. She and David were Justin's dedicated sports enthusiasts and Ashley's partner in cheerleading and horse show competitions.

Julie also earned her own acclaim at horse shows. In 2011, she achieved Top 20 in Open Showmanship at the Paint Horse World Championship. The following year, she won Reserve Grand Champion at Paint Horse World. She served as treasurer of the Paint Horse Association for several years.

Julie is preceded in death by her daughter Ashley Marie Huntington and father Connie Moore. Surviving family are husband David Huntington; mother Iva Moore; son Justin Huntington, wife Kendall and sons, Kallen and Kase; sister Nancy Moore Blocker, husband Robert and daughters Kendra Mackey, Ariel Martin and husband Bradley Martin with one on the way in November.

The Huntington Family is truly grateful for your outpouring of love and support. We know beyond a shadow of doubt that Julie is in Heaven, riding horses with Ashley through the pasture and Dado is telling them where to find the cattle. Happy trail riding, Dear Julie.
