Joseph Leon Tilmon

Joseph Leon Tilmon lll, 44, passed from this life on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK.

He was born to Joseph Leon Tilmon ll and Earlene (Mayhew) Tilmon on August 2, 1979 at Stillwater Municipal Hospital in Stillwater, OK. Joseph attended school in Nowata, OK. As a youngster he enjoyed playing baseball with his childhood buddies. Joey was also active in track, basketball and football. He made his debut in the yearbook for being the “Class Clown” and “Most Mischievious”, which was voted on by his classmates. After high school, he had two children, a daughter Amaya and a son Bourne. Who Joey referred to as “My My” and “Son”.

Over the years, Joseph Leon Tilmon lll, also known as “Joey”, “JoeBug”, “JoBell” and “Jote” acquired many nicknames. He was known to give his own unique nicknames to many of his family and friends. Some of his favorites were “Earl the Pearl”, “Ky-Reeny", “Leeky”, “Books”, “Niecy” and “BOP”. If you knew Joey you had a nickname whether you wanted one or not.

Joey was the only baby boy of Leon, Earlene and his seven loving sisters. Joey enjoyed watching Sunday and Monday night NFL football and couldn’t wait till his OU Sooners played. He even had his bedroom decorated in OU. He enjoyed a good ole barbeque and hanging out with his family. He always loved entertaining and cutting up. Joey was a giver and wanted to make sure his family was taken care of. No matter what, Joey always had a smile. Joey’s signature smile could light up a room. That spark in his eyes and smile was a source of happiness for all of us. He will forever be remembered with that smile and his BIG love for his friends and family. Words cannot express the grief we all feel from this loss, but he has left us with so many memories filled with joy and humor.

Preceding Joey in death are his father, Joseph Leon Tilmon ll, one sister, Joylynn Cotton, maternal grandparents Oce Mayhew, Ora (Peace) Mayhew, paternal grandparents Joseph Leon Tilmon Sr. and Clella Ann (Knight) Tilmon. Brother in law, Lamont Jackson.

Survivors include his mother Earlene Mayhew of Tulsa, OK, Daughter, Amaya Corle of Nowata, OK, Son, Bourne Tilmon of Minnesota, sisters, Gail Green of Dewey, OK, Chanda Tilmon of Omaha, Nebraska, Vicki Williams and husband Reginald of Wichita, Kansas, Sonya Tilmon Larkin and husband Antonio of Minnesota, Stephanie Tilmon of Minnesota and Lee Ann Tilmon of Tulsa, OK. And his honorary parents Dave and Shari Pierce of Nowata, sister Nicci and husband Steven Mayhew of Oologah, OK, brothers Lucas Pierce and wife Michele of Nowata, OK and Tyler Pierce and wife, Carissa of Oologah, OK.
