Obituary

James Louis Selanders, 83, formerly of Nowata, passed away in The Journey Home, Bartlesville, Tuesday, June 16, 2026. James was born on Mar. 18, 1943, in Montana, Kansas to James L. and Bessie L (Green) Selanders. After high school, James was married to the former Muriel Hoffine in 1974. He worked for over 30 years with the Associated Wholesale Grocers as a Loader Driver, retiring in 1999. James was active with the Nowata County Historical Society and had also served as a Board Member of the Museum. He is survived by his sister, Linda Richardson of Bartlesville; stepsister, Peggy (Anderson) Oliver of Independence, KS.; 3 nieces, Kelley D. and her husband Jim Henderson of Lansing, Ks, Deidre Wells and her husband Guy Buckland of Bartlesville, Michelle and her husband Gary Petrie of Bartlesville; nephew, Dominic (Nick) D. and his wife Natalie Babcock of Queen Creek, AZ; Great nieces', Kelsey Melton of Bartlesville, Paige Rice of Lansing, KS, Kayleigh Bloom of Palmer Lake, CO; great nephew's Jake Henderson of Lansing, KS, Gavin Petrie of Bartlesville; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. James was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel on Sept 23, 2012, his parents, and his brothers, Danny and Leon.

Visitation for James will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in the Benjamin Funeral Chapel, Nowata, from 4-6PM. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 1:00PM in the Lenape Cemetery, Bonner Springs, KS, with Rev. Andrew Haire officiating.
