Idus Hoyt Wesson

November 24, 1939 — August 13, 2025

Nowata, Oklahoma

Idus “Hoyt” Wesson, Jr., 85, went to be with his Lord on August 13, 2025. Hoyt was born November 24, 1939, in Childers, to Idus H. and Frona D. (Jackson), Wesson. He went to the Armstrong and Childers schools, graduating in 1959 at Childers. He attended Northeastern State College, and joined the U.S. Army in February, 1961. After basic training, Hoyt married Juanita (Nita) Roberson on April 24, 1961. He was stationed at Presidio of San Francisco, CA, where Nita joined him, and later he was stationed at the Mill Valley Air Force Base NORAD Control Center top of Mt. Tamalpais, where he served his country until he received his honorable discharge February of 1963. This was during the Cuba Missile Crises and the assassination of President Kennedy. They then moved to the Carlsbad – Oceanside – Vista, CA area, where Hoyt went to work as a plumber’s helper and attended Plumbing School at Palomar College to get his contractor’s license. While in California, they welcomed the birth of daughter, Gina, in 1965 and in 1971 they moved back to Nowata, mainly to be close to family. Hoyt worked in Tulsa for Southside Plumbing, before becoming owner and operator of Courtesy Plumbing in Nowata from May 1, 1976 thru March 1994. Hoyt & Nita lived on a farm east of Nowata for 40 years, where they had a cow/calf operation. Hoyt was a quiet and gentle natured individual who loved his family, church, friends, OU football, hunting and fishing. He always looked forward to the many fishing trips with his friends, and Nita was required to take a picture of all their catches and place them in photo albums ~ which Hoyt would proudly show anyone that came around. They sold the farm and moved to town in 2014, where Hoyt began maintaining the yard, flower beds, and a small garden, in which he shared his bounty with family and friends. Hoyt, being an early riser, on some days he went for breakfast at Depot Café or the Donut Shop to visit with friends. He was a member of Trinity Church in Nowata all of his life. Over the years he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and was on the church board. He helped with the church’s food bank ministry. He loved when the church had their fish fry’s and whenever he could talk to someone about the Lord. He was a member of the American Legion Post 101 in Nowata. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, Billy Gene, Charles, Leroy, Glenn and Elsworth “Punk” Wesson, and 4 sisters, Catherine (Wesson) Sprague, infant Willie Mae Wesson, Floyce (Wesson) Standeford, and Joyce (Wesson) Robinson.
